NH Laity Group Releases Canon Case to
Replace Bishops
|
A group of New Hampshire Catholics have made
public a canon law case which seeks to remove Bishop John McCormack and
Auxiliary Bishop Francis Christian from their positions in the Diocese of
Manchester, New Hampshire. First filed in October 2003, the group cites
canon laws which provide the basis for removal of bishops as pastors who
have failed in their duties and have become ineffective as leaders. The
following links provide electronic versions of the canon petition and
associated correspondence.

Canon 212 §3.
(re: Laity)
According to the
knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, they have the right
and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion
on matters which pertain to the good of the Church and to make their opinion
known to the rest of the Christian faithful, without prejudice to the
integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and
attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.
